Bodie is a ghost town in the Bodie Hills east of the Sierra Nevada mountain range in Mono County, California, about 75 miles southeast of Lake Tahoe. It is reputed to be the best preserved ghost town in California. Its peak years as a gold mining camp were from 1877 to 1887 but some operations continued for more than two decades. It is now maintained and operated by the California State Park System.
